DUBAI: Preparations are officially underway for Eid Al Etihad 2025, marking the 54th anniversary of the UAE’s formation on Tuesday, December 2.
With large-scale celebrations, nationwide events, and a possible extended weekend, this year’s National Day is set to bring together residents and visitors in a patriotic display of unity and pride.
Announced on Union Pledge Day (July 18), this year’s theme continues to promote community participation, heritage, and future aspirations. The UAE’s leadership has extended an open invitation to all residents to take part in the build-up to the country’s biggest annual celebration.
Public holidays
December 2 and 3 are the official public holidays to mark National Day. However, with December 1 falling on a Monday, residents may enjoy a four-day weekend, with a slim possibility of a five-day break, depending on final announcements by the UAE Cabinet.
While schools, government offices, and many private sector businesses are expected to close for the full holiday, essential services will remain operational. As always, residents are advised to check with their employers for official confirmation closer to the date.
Eid Al Etihad celebrations
The central Eid Al Etihad celebration will take place on Tuesday, December 2 at a yet-to-be-revealed location. In 2024, the official ceremony was held at Jebel Hafeet in Al Ain, highlighting the country’s culture, values, and ambitions in a visually striking setting. This year’s venue is expected to follow suit with a similarly iconic and meaningful backdrop.
A new behind-the-scenes film was also released on Union Pledge Day, offering an inside look at last year’s creative process and collaborative efforts that brought the 53rd National Day celebration to life. It’s now available to watch online and offers a preview of the scale and spirit residents can anticipate this year.
Where to celebrate across the Emirates
In addition to the main event, multiple designated celebration zones are expected to be activated across the country. These zones typically feature fireworks, cultural performances, family-friendly activities, and themed installations. Popular locations in 2024 included:
- Global Village
- Festival Promenade
- Hatta Wadi Hub
- Quranic Park
- The Outlet Village Mall
- Bluewaters Island
- Al Seef and Dubai Festival City
Expect vibrant displays of red, green, white, and black as buildings, streets, and landmarks are illuminated in the UAE flag colours. Emirates like Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah will host large-scale firework shows and live concerts to draw families and tourists alike.
How does UAE celebrate National Day?
National Day in the UAE is celebrated with great enthusiasm and unity. Many residents decorate their cars, homes, and workplaces with UAE flags and colours. Patriotic songs, traditional Emirati cuisine, and community gatherings add to the festive atmosphere.

What about the rules?
While official 2025 safety guidelines are yet to be released, authorities typically issue reminders regarding public behaviour and road safety. Based on past years, expect the following:
- No unauthorised car parades
- No party sprays in public areas or on roads
- Clear visibility of vehicle number plates
- Prohibition of excess passengers or dangerous stunts
- Respectful celebration in public spaces
